The NYIT Computer Graphics Laboratory was a research facility located in the Gerry House of the New York Institute of Technology between 1974-1992. At the CGL a variety of accomplishments were made such as the invention of the alpha channel as well as the development of computerized 2D animation. Among the many experiments at the lab there was The Works, a project intended to be the first 3D computer animated feature. The Works was in production from 1979 to around 1983 when focus was being brought to other projects. It was officially canceled in 1986 when Williams left the lab.
